Park Naming Dispute Erupts in Bagbera
BJP and JMM Clash Over Renaming Wireless Ground as a Park
Key Points:
- BJP names Bagbera Wireless Ground after Atal Bihari Vajpayee
- JMM demands renaming park in honor of late Shibu Soren
- Both parties submit claims, dispute intensifies in Jamshedpur
JAMSHEDPUR – A fresh political row broke out in Bagbera after two parties claimed rights to rename the Wireless Ground as a public park.
The Bharatiya Janata Party organized a meeting yesterday and named the park Atal Bihari Vajpayee Udyan. BJP district president Sudhanshu Ojha said the land belonged to Railways. He added that the proposal for fencing and turning it into a park had already been raised in Parliament. Consequently, the BJP installed a board naming the area after the former prime minister.
However, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha opposed the move today. A delegation of JMM leaders submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner demanding the park be named Shibu Soren Udyan. According to JMM leaders, their party had already decided in an earlier meeting that the park should honor the late leader.
Meanwhile, JMM leaders alleged that the BJP acted in the dark of night by placing Vajpayee’s board, calling it an insult to Shibu Soren. “The BJP has revealed its dirty politics,” said one JMM youth leader. “We strongly object to this disrespect.”
On the one hand, the BJP maintained its stance on parliamentary backing. On the other hand, JMM insisted on legal procedures to validate their claim. The dispute has now become a flashpoint between the two parties in Jamshedpur.
