JAMSHEDPUR – Kadma police foiled a mobile theft racket on Sunday, arresting four gang members and recovering nine stolen phones.
The accused were identified as Prince Kumar Mahto and Rasi Kumar from Sahibganj, and Ritesh Kumar Nonia and Tausheep Sheikh from Asansol. Police said the group had come to target the Ganesh Puja fair in Kadma.
Acting on a tip-off, a patrol team detained one youth with a stolen phone at Kadma market. Based on his information, three more members were arrested from JK Society in Mango.
From their possession, police recovered nine phones, three SIM cards, and two memory cards. Investigations revealed that the gang specialized in stealing phones from women and elderly people in crowded places.
Officials said the gang had previously been involved in thefts at Hart Bazaar and other busy localities. Kadma Thana Case No. 78/25 dated 24.08.2025 was registered under IPC Section 379(2).
Senior Superintendent of Police Piyush Pandey shared details of the arrests during a press conference on Monday.
