Tata Steel Reaffirms Its Commitment to Odisha at Conclave

BHUBANESWAR – Tata Steel reaffirmed its pivotal role in Odisha’s development at the Utkarsh Odisha 2025 Conclave in Bhubaneswar. The company emphasized its decade-long $10 billion investments and future plans through a dedicated pavilion, showcasing sustainability, innovation, and socio-economic contributions.

Expanding Operations in Odisha

CEO and MD T V Narendran highlighted Tata Steel’s commitment to Odisha, noting significant expansions like the $3 MTPA to 8 MTPA capacity boost at Kalinganagar, expected to generate 8,000 jobs. “Odisha has become our largest investment destination, thanks to its natural resources, strategic location, and supportive governance,” he remarked.

The expansion, valued at ₹27,000 crore, aims to manufacture Advanced High Strength Steels (AHSS) for India’s automotive sector, reducing dependency on imports.

Innovations and Infrastructure Development

The pavilion spotlighted the Gopalpur Industrial Park, a hub attracting ₹32,000 crore investments, particularly in renewable energy, including green hydrogen and solar manufacturing. The Subarnarekha port expansion and the contributions of Tata Consultancy Services were also featured.

Additionally, Tata Steel’s Ore, Mines & Quarries Division showcased its innovations in sustainable mining, ensuring ecological balance while driving industrial growth.

Community and Sports Initiatives

The Tata Steel Foundation’s community outreach programmes across 27 districts in Odisha have positively impacted over 2.38 million lives in FY24. Education, healthcare, and livelihoods remain the core focus.

In sports, initiatives like the Odisha Naval Tata Hockey High-Performance Centre and grassroots programmes engage over 9,100 youth. High-performance training facilities for archery and adventure sports further strengthen the state’s athletic ecosystem.

Looking Ahead

Tata Steel’s strategic acquisitions, including the Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL) plant and Meramandali plant, underline its commitment to Odisha’s industrial growth. Expansion efforts at these units and the Kalinganagar plant aim to boost production and enhance India’s manufacturing landscape.
