JAMSHEDPUR – The Media Cup Cricket Tournament, organized by the Press Club of Jamshedpur, commenced on Tuesday at the Co-operative College Ground. Dedicated to the memory of late industrialist Ratan Tata, the tournament will run until February 8. The inaugural ceremony featured notable attendees, including Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal, ADM Law and Order Aniket Sachan, Rural SP Rishabh Garg, and other dignitaries.
District Commissioner Ananya Mittal praised the event, highlighting its legacy of 18 years and the active participation of veteran players. “It’s remarkable to see players who started 18 years ago still engaging with such enthusiasm,” he stated.
Inauguration and Key Matches
The tournament’s opening ceremony also witnessed speeches by Press Club President Sanjeev Bhardwaj and other prominent guests. The first match saw the Police team defeat Telco Tashan by 25 runs. Batting first, the Police team scored an impressive 142 runs in 12 overs without losing a wicket. Key contributors included Vikas Kumar (67 runs), Ratan (36 runs), and Bhola Prasad (27 runs).
