JAMSHEDPUR – In response to the recent collapse of residential flats in Gamharia’s TAYO housing sector, former Chief Minister Champai Soren convened a meeting on Wednesday with officials from Tata Steel and the Jharkhand Industrial Area Development Authority (JIADA). The meeting, held at the Director’s Bungalow in Jamshedpur, included affected residents from the TAYO complex.

Positive Outcomes from the Meeting

Post-meeting, Soren informed the media that the discussions were constructive. He has instructed the Deputy Commissioner to conduct thorough inspections of the remaining flats to ensure their safety. Soren emphasized that all decisions will prioritize the welfare of the workers. Additionally, JIADA officials have been directed to provide appropriate compensation to the affected families.

Background of the Incident

On Monday, 16 flats in the TAYO residential sector collapsed. Fortunately, there were no major injuries, but residents lost their belongings under the debris. The workers had previously reported that the flats had not been maintained for the past nine years, leading to their dilapidated condition.

Following the incident, Champai Soren visited the site on Tuesday to meet with the affected families. The residents expressed their grievances, highlighting that since the closure of the TAYO company, their final settlements had not been processed, forcing them to reside in the deteriorating flats. In response, Soren immediately contacted Tata management, urging them to provide new accommodations for the workers.
