JAMSHEDPUR – A tragic road accident near the Gitti Machine area in Govindpur has overshadowed the Republic Day celebrations. Two elderly men, Daso Sandil (75) and Durga Birua (65), were fatally hit by an uncontrolled 407 vehicle while crossing the road after returning from a Tusu Mela. Durga Birua died on the spot, and Daso Sandil succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Protests by Locals

The incident sparked outrage among local residents, who blocked the road near the accident site. Protesters burnt tires and demanded compensation for the victims’ families. They also called for the construction of speed bumps on the road to prevent future accidents.

Tensions Escalate at the Scene

Police arrived at the scene to pacify the protesters, but the crowd refused to allow the removal of the bodies. The agitated locals insisted on their demands being met before ending the protest. As of the latest updates, the bodies remained on the road, with residents continuing their demonstration.
