JAMSHEDPUR – In a major drug bust, Jamshedpur’s Barsol police seized 8 kg of ganja worth approximately ₹1.5 lakh from a passenger bus on Saturday. Rural SP Rishabh Garg provided details during a press conference, emphasizing the police’s ongoing efforts against drug trafficking.
Operation Details
Acting on a tip-off, police learned that a consignment of ganja was being transported from Odisha to West Bengal on a passenger bus. A team was quickly formed to intercept the vehicle. However, the bus driver attempted to evade capture by taking an off-road route. Thanks to prompt action by the police, the bus was stopped within Barsol police limits, where a search uncovered the illicit drugs.
Arrest and Investigation
The bus conductor, Jayant Das, was arrested in connection with the smuggling operation. According to SP Garg, the conductor was actively involved in the drug trade. Police are now investigating further links in the supply chain.
Broader Anti-Drug Efforts
SP Garg highlighted that Jamshedpur police are conducting a special drive against narcotics under the guidance of senior officials. He assured that these efforts will continue, with a vision to make Jamshedpur a drug-free district. “Achieving this goal requires collective action from all sections of society,” he said.
Meanwhile, similar initiatives are being undertaken in neighboring districts like Seraikela, where authorities are also tackling drug-related crimes such as the brown sugar trade.
