MLA Alleges Rs 40 Crore Blanket Distribution Scam in Jharkhand
Saryu Roy Claims Major Violations in Quality and Procurement Process
Key Points:
- Over 9.2 lakh blankets fail to meet quality specifications across state
- Suppliers allegedly using power looms instead of mandated handlooms
- MLA demands statewide investigation into procurement irregularities
RANCHI – MLA Saryu Roy has written to Chief Minister Hemant Soren alleging massive irregularities in state blanket distribution scheme.
The letter highlights quality violations. Two suppliers received orders worth several crores.
“Most blankets contain only 35-40% wool,” Roy stated firmly.
Quality Concerns
The suppliers allegedly violated multiple specifications. The tender required 70% wool content.
Meanwhile, power looms replaced handloom production. This directly violated tender conditions.
Procurement Issues
The centralized procurement raised costs significantly. Each blanket cost ₹75-100 more than last year.
Moreover, financial bids underwent premature evaluation. This breached standard procurement protocols.
Supply Strategy
Suppliers reportedly adopted a deceptive approach. They delivered two distinct quality levels.
Meanwhile, only 10% blankets met specifications. The rest fell short of quality standards.
“Quality testing should cover rural areas,” a source suggested.
