JAMSHEDPUR – The Bengali Association, Bongo Bandhu, has raised concerns about the poor state of Netaji Subhas Ground in Sakchi. The association submitted a letter to Jamshedpur Akshes, highlighting the need for urgent cleanup, beautification, and repairs to Netaji Subhas’s statue.
Demands for Maintenance and Repair
The association’s president, Aparna Guha, expressed disappointment over the neglect of the ground and statue. She noted that the high mast light near the site is non-functional, and the open gate allows misuse of the premises, with some individuals reportedly using the statue’s platform for substance abuse. Guha emphasized, “This ground, named after Netaji Subhas, is in a deplorable condition with garbage strewn everywhere. Immediate action is essential.”
Preparations for Netaji’s Birthday
With Netaji Subhas’s birth anniversary approaching on January 23, the association stressed the need for proper cleaning and beautification. They pointed out that the statue’s platform and surroundings must reflect the dignity befitting such an iconic leader.
Warning of Protests
The Bengali Association has warned of protests if their demands are not addressed promptly. They have called on Jamshedpur Akshes to ensure the site’s transformation before the upcoming celebrations. “Neglecting such a significant site disrespects Netaji’s legacy,” Guha added.
Members Present
Among those present during the inspection and submission of the memorandum were Aparna Guha, Binod Dey, Nantu Sarkar, and Prasanjeet Sarkar, all of whom actively voiced their concerns and commitment to the cause.
