State-Level Kho-Kho Championship Begins With Grand Inauguration

GHATSHILA – The 18th Jharkhand State Senior Kho-Kho Championship commenced on Friday at Mau Bhandar Tamra Pratibha Ground in Ghatshila. Organized by the East Singhbhum District Kho-Kho Association, the three-day event promises intense competition among 600 players representing various districts.

Grand Inauguration By State Leaders

The opening ceremony was graced by State Minister for School Education and Literacy, Ramdas Soren, and HCL-ICC Executive Director, Shyam Sundar Sethi. The dignitaries performed a ceremonial ribbon-cutting and coconut-breaking to mark the start of the championship. Minister Soren expressed pride in hosting players from diverse regions of Jharkhand and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting sports through dedicated policies and opportunities.

Vibrant Participation Across Categories

The tournament sees participation from 350 boys and 250 girls. The final match is set for January 5. In his address, Minister Soren announced financial support of ₹1 lakh for the championship and shared details about national-level sports events beginning January 5 in Ranchi under his department’s guidance.

Organizing Challenges And Support

HCL-ICC’s Shyam Sundar Sethi applauded the organizing committee for their swift efforts. “This championship highlights the state’s commitment to nurturing sports talent and building a vibrant sporting culture,” he remarked. Organizing Committee Chair Om Prakash Singh credited teamwork for making the event possible within a week’s notice.

Ceremonial Welcome And Guests

The event saw an elaborate ceremonial welcome with angavastrams and bouquets presented to dignitaries. The welcome address was delivered by Ghatshila Block President Narendra Kumar Rai, and the vote of thanks by District Association Treasurer Shyam Sharma. Among the attendees were BN Singhdeo, Jagdish Bhagat, Santosh Prasad, and several state officials.
