Ranchi Police Uncover Mobile Theft Racket Involving Children

RANCHI – Ranchi Police arrested Shivji Mahato, the alleged mastermind behind a mobile theft racket involving children, near the National Saras Mela at Morabadi. The arrest followed the apprehension of a child found with a stolen mobile phone near Bapu Vatika.
Police revealed that upon questioning, the child identified two other minors involved in the thefts. Further investigation led to the arrest of Shivji Mahato, who reportedly orchestrated the thefts and used children to target crowded events like fairs and markets.
Operation Details
Ranchi City Superintendent of Police, Rajkumar Mehta, disclosed at a press conference that Mahato, a native of Sahibganj, brought children to Ranchi for theft and begging operations. He exploited crowded venues such as the Khadi Mela to carry out mobile thefts through these children.
Major Recovery and Ongoing Probe
A total of 31 stolen mobiles were recovered during the operation. Police have launched efforts to apprehend Mahato’s accomplices to dismantle the entire network. “Our efforts are aimed at ensuring safety and security during public events,” said SP Mehta.

The incident has raised concerns about child exploitation and organized theft at public gatherings. Police urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
