Arjun Munda Defends Champai Soren, Criticizes INDIA Alliance Leaders

Former CM slams ‘unfortunate’ statements, recalls shared struggle for Jharkhand

Arjun Munda defends former CM Champai Soren against criticism from INDIA alliance leaders, highlighting their shared history in the Jharkhand movement.

SERAIKELA – Ex-CM Arjun Munda defends Champai Soren, criticizing INDIA alliance leaders for their ‘unfortunate’ statements about the former CM.

Former Union Minister and BJP leader Arjun Munda has come to the defense of ex-Chief Minister Champai Soren, criticizing recent statements made by some INDIA alliance leaders.

Munda emphasized Champai Soren’s background as a leader who emerged from the ‘Jal, Jungle, Zameen’ (Water, Forest, Land) movement.

He expressed deep concern over the remarks made by current state ministers and leaders about the former CM.

"It’s unfortunate that those who entered politics through family connections are now making accusations against him," Munda stated.

The BJP leader recalled the days of the Jharkhand movement, highlighting the shared struggle of leaders like Champai Soren, Ramadas Soren, and himself.

Munda pointed out that the Kolhan division, formerly part of the unified Singhbhum district, saw numerous legal cases filed against movement participants.

He criticized the ruling coalition’s handling of Champai Soren’s appointment and subsequent removal as Chief Minister.

Without naming CM Hemant Soren, Munda said, "He entrusted responsibilities to Champai Soren, calling him uncle during a crisis, which Champai fulfilled. But upon returning from jail, his only concern was how quickly to regain power."

Munda suggested that keeping Champai Soren in his position until the assembly elections would have shown respect for him.

The former CM reminisced about his association with Champai Soren during the struggle for a separate Jharkhand state.

He emphasized their shared commitment to the issues of ‘Jal, Jungle, Zameen’ when few others were discussing these fundamental concerns.

Regarding the current government’s pre-election schemes and announcements, Munda claimed they show little concern for tribal welfare and are aimed at short-term gains.

Munda also spoke about the BJP’s prospects in the upcoming assembly elections, expressing confidence in the party’s performance.

When asked about his own candidacy in the assembly elections, Munda stated it would be inappropriate to comment on the matter at this time.
