MLA Roy Seeks Meeting on Affordable Water Supply for Poor Sections

Urges Implementation of Tata Lease Agreement for Free Water Connections

Key Points:

  • Calls for waiver of high water connection charges for slum dwellers
  • Seeks implementation of 2005 Tata lease agreement provisions
  • Suggests free connections for families earning below Rs 70,000 annually

JAMSHEDPUR – MLA Saryu Roy has requested the Deputy Commissioner to convene a meeting addressing expensive water connection fees affecting economically weaker sections.

Connection costs range from Rs 13,000 to Rs 25,000. Many households lack access to clean water.

“These charges are beyond reach for daily wage workers,” Roy emphasized.

Agreement Implementation

The 2005 Tata Lease Agreement mandates affordable rates. Similar policies exist in government municipalities.

Additionally, BPL families receive exemptions statewide. Recent government orders support this initiative.

Infrastructure Responsibility

Tata Steel UISL should bear connection costs. The agreement specifies public amenity provisions.

Moreover, implementation oversight needs clarification. The Deputy Commissioner holds controlling authority.

Proposed Solutions

The discussion will include key stakeholders. JNAC and Tata Steel UISL officials will participate.

Meanwhile, areas like Kadma face water access issues. Immediate intervention is necessary.
