Officials Raid Sand Mafia Operations, Seize Large Sand Stockpile

Key Points:

  • 20,000 CFT sand seized in Baharagora raid
  • Authorities disrupt mafia’s illegal sand supply plan
  • Locals demand sand auctions to curb shortages

BAHARAGORA – A raid on illegal sand mining in Baharagora’s Madhuabeda village led to the seizure of 20,000 CFT sand on Saturday evening.

District Mining Inspector Arvind Kumar and police station in-charge Ishwar Dayal Munda conducted the raid. Authorities found sand mafias were illegally stockpiling sand near the riverbank to distribute it using large trucks.

The operation was well-planned and successfully halted the mafia’s activities. According to sources, the sand was being extracted unlawfully from the Madhuabeda riverbank for several days.

Meanwhile, local residents expressed relief. They highlighted the severe environmental damage caused by illegal mining. One resident remarked, “This action will help control the mafias and protect the environment.”

Local tractor owners and contractors urged the government to expedite the auction of sand ghats. They emphasized that construction projects are delayed due to the shortage of sand. Many government schemes are also being affected.

Furthermore, locals claimed they are forced to purchase sand at high prices from neighboring West Bengal. Due to this crisis, many are unable to build homes, impacting the region’s infrastructure development.

The crackdown sends a strong message to illegal operators and ensures better regulation of sand supply. The administration aims to prevent further exploitation of resources while addressing public concerns.
