MLA Directs Officials to Resolve Persistent Traffic Jams on Swarnarekha Bridge

Key Points:

  • MLA Saryu Roy inspects Swarnarekha Bridge to address traffic gridlock.

  • Criticizes Mango flyover plan; suggests immediate traffic management improvements.

  • Ambulances and essential services disrupted by daily jams, prompting urgent measures.

JAMSHEDPUR – Persistent traffic jams on Swarnarekha Bridge connecting East and West Jamshedpur have drawn MLA Saryu Roy’s attention.

Traffic snarls on the Swarnarekha River bridge have become a daily ordeal, particularly affecting schoolchildren, office-goers, and emergency services.

MLA Saryu Roy conducted an on-site inspection on Friday, directing district officials to implement immediate solutions to ease congestion.

He also criticized the Mango flyover project, stating that the approved design would fail to resolve traffic woes for Mango and Azad Basti residents.

Local Concerns Intensify

Swarnarekha Bridge faces constant jams due to ongoing construction at the Mango flyover site.

The bottlenecks have severely affected the daily commute, with ambulances and other essential services frequently stuck for hours.

One resident described the situation, saying, "This is not just an inconvenience; it’s a risk to lives."

MLA Roy underscored that a short-term traffic management plan is critical while flyover construction continues.

Issues With the Flyover Design

The MLA raised significant concerns about the Mango flyover, claiming its blueprint was poorly planned.

Roy argued that the current design would not provide lasting relief from traffic congestion.

“There’s a need for amendments in the design,” he stated, adding that Mango and Azad Basti’s problems remain unaddressed in the existing layout.

Steps Towards Immediate Relief

To mitigate traffic woes, the district administration and senior police officials have been instructed to enhance traffic control.

A meeting involving police and administrative officials was convened on Friday to discuss actionable steps.

This development comes against the backdrop of the Mango flyover’s approval during former minister Banna Gupta’s tenure.

Despite its approval, the project has sparked controversy as traffic issues persist under ongoing construction.
