JAMSHEDPUR – A 16-day campaign against gender-based violence was inaugurated in Champi village, Potka block. Organized by Youth Unity for Voluntary Action (YUVA) and Women Gaining Ground Consortium in collaboration with Kriya, New Delhi, the event included a football tournament for girls and a balloon release to symbolize equality and unity.
The program emphasized breaking barriers of inequality for a more inclusive society. Anjana Devgam, Project Coordinator, highlighted the urgent need to combat gender discrimination and violence. She noted an alarming rise in online abuse and exploitation of women in sports, which often limits their participation.
The tournament saw Dukurdih girls’ team crowned champions, while Hesalbil secured the runner-up position. Awards for Best Goalkeeper and Best Player went to Pooja Nayak and Pooja Soren, respectively. Panchayat committee member Urmila Sardar officiated as a referee, and Young Girl Leader Monica Sardar helped coordinate the event.
Moreover, the campaign aims to ensure equal opportunities for marginalized groups, including transgender individuals and people with disabilities. Speakers emphasized the collective effort needed to create a fair and equitable society.
