SERAIKELA – Women in Seraikela’s Gamharia block staged a protest against alleged irregularities in the Maiyan Samman Scheme.
Women from various panchayats, including Gamharia and Adityapur, gathered at the block office on Monday to voice their frustration.
Despite repeated applications, many women claimed they had not received any benefits under the scheme.
"The government asked for our trust during elections, but we feel deceived now," said one protester.
Anger at Officials and System
The protestors accused computer operators and administrative staff of negligence.
They surrounded the officials and demanded explanations, alleging deliberate delays and mismanagement.
"If beneficiaries are expected to pay back Rs 2,500 from December, why have we not received even a single installment yet?" asked another protestor.
Government’s Accountability Under Question
The women highlighted how Chief Minister Hemant Soren and his wife Kalpana Soren had actively promoted the scheme during elections.
They expressed disappointment, saying the scheme was a decisive factor in ensuring the government’s re-election.
"If these promises were just election stunts, then the government must face the people’s anger," stated one of the protest leaders.
The protestors have warned of escalating their demonstrations if immediate action is not taken to address their grievances.
