SERAIKELA – Late Thursday night, the mining department conducted a raid near Nuavdih village in Seraikela. The operation exposed illegal sand mining activities in the Kharakai River region.
Led by SDPO Samir Kumar Sawayya and mining officials, the team seized five boats. These boats were destroyed on-site to prevent further illegal operations. The crackdown followed consistent complaints to the Deputy Commissioner regarding unauthorized sand extraction.
Reports revealed sand was extracted and stockpiled using boats. It was then transported at night using tractors. The Deputy Commissioner ordered strict action, resulting in the raid.
However, questions have arisen over the local police’s involvement. Allegations suggest that a sand-laden tractor was seized but later released. The police claimed the tractor was empty, raising doubts about their explanation.
This operation has caused panic among sand mafias. Authorities have assured continuous monitoring to curb such activities in the future.
