JAMSHEDPUR – The grand Chhath Mahotsav at the Suryamandir complex in Sidhgora, Jamshedpur, witnessed immense enthusiasm on Thursday evening as thousands gathered to honor the Sun God at the annual celebration organized by the Suryamandir Committee.
Odisha’s Governor Raghubar Das attended as the chief guest, joined by prominent committee members including patron Chandragupt Singh and President Bhupendra Singh.
The festival’s cultural highlight included performances by celebrated folk artists Annu Dubey and Shyama Shailja Jha, whose devotional songs and Chhath-themed melodies captivated the crowd.
Musical Performances and Enthusiastic Response
The festival’s festive spirit soared as Annu Dubey began her soulful renditions of popular Chhath songs like “Sava Lakh Ke Sari Bheeje” and “Chamkat Rahe Sinhorwa e Chhathi Maiya.”
Attendees applauded and joined in the celebrations, immersing themselves in the cultural significance of the occasion.
Famed singer Shyama Shailja Jha added further charm with songs such as “Satyam Shivam Sundaram” and “Chala Bhauji Hali Hali Suraj Dikhaiye Lali,” creating an atmosphere of spiritual reverence.
Governor’s Address and Tribute
Governor Raghubar Das paid a heartfelt tribute to the late folk icon Sharda Sinha, recalling her memorable performance at the temple’s Chhath festival in 2002.
“This is an emotional moment as I remember Sharda Sinha Ji’s powerful presence here, making this occasion even more special,” he said, adding that Chhath Puja represents a festival of devotion and hope, uniting communities nationwide.
Das conveyed his best wishes for Chhath, praying to the Sun God for the fulfillment of devotees’ aspirations and prosperity in every household.
He acknowledged the Suryamandir Committee’s continued efforts, saying, “This temple, built with the support of the community, has become a symbol of faith and unity since 2001.”
Committee’s Ongoing Dedication
Chandragupt Singh, the committee’s patron, reaffirmed the temple committee’s commitment to religious and social responsibilities, noting, “Our mission is to preserve cultural heritage while supporting the community’s spiritual needs.”
