MGM Hospital Faces Parking Crisis, Impacting Patient Care

Lack of secure parking leads to vehicle thefts, adds stress for visitors

Key Points:

• 3,000 daily visitors struggle with inadequate parking at Kolhan’s largest govt hospital

• Multiple incidents of motorcycle theft reported due to lack of secure parking

• Hospital administration acknowledges issue, plans to seek government assistance

• Visitors demand ticketed parking system for vehicle safety

JAMSHEDPUR – MGM Hospital, the region’s largest government medical facility, grapples with a severe parking shortage, causing distress to patients and families.

The hospital receives approximately 3,000 visitors daily, including 1,200 patients.

Currently, there are no secure parking arrangements for those arriving by vehicle.

Visitors are forced to leave their vehicles unattended outside the hospital premises.

Om Prakash, a concerned visitor, expressed frustration over the situation.

He highlighted the added stress of constantly checking on parked vehicles.

Multiple incidents of motorcycle theft have been reported recently.

Surveillance footage has captured thieves in action, exacerbating visitors’ anxiety.

Two years ago, a paid parking system was briefly implemented.

However, the system was discontinued after just one week due to administrative issues.

Dr. Shikha Rani, a hospital official, acknowledged the ongoing parking crisis.

She stated the administration’s intention to communicate with government officials for solutions.

One suggestion involves utilizing empty space along the boundary wall for parking.

This approach is similar to systems in place at other medical facilities.

Families have voiced their frustrations, calling for improved security measures.

Sheikh Ibrahim, another visitor, emphasized the need for a ticketed parking facility.

The parking crisis adds to the stress of families already burdened by medical concerns.

Hospital authorities are under pressure to find a quick and effective solution.
