Police Accused of Assault in Azadnagar Custody Case

Complaint Alleges Illegal Detention and Brutality by Officers

JAMSHEDPUR – A resident has accused police of illegal detention, assault, and threats inside a local station.

The incident has been reported from Azadnagar police station area in Jamshedpur. A written complaint was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner by Mazhar Khan.

According to the complaint, the issue began on April 4, 2026. Khan said he learned his friend Shahid was detained unlawfully.

Meanwhile, he alleged Shahid was held without legal procedure since morning. He also claimed his friend was being beaten inside the station.

Khan said he reached the police station around 7:30 pm. He requested officers to follow due legal process if any crime was involved.

However, he alleged that station in-charge Chandan Kumar became angry. He claimed he was called into a cabin afterward.

According to Khan, officers misbehaved inside the cabin. He alleged his mobile phone and about Rs 2,000 were forcibly taken.

Moreover, he claimed he was abused verbally during the incident. He also alleged threats were issued to kill him.

In contrast, Khan stated the cabin door was then shut. He alleged multiple officers surrounded him inside.

Furthermore, he claimed he was beaten severely with kicks and punches. He said his head was slammed against a wall.

As a result, he reportedly fell to the ground during the assault. He further alleged repeated death threats during the beating.

Meanwhile, Khan said he was released only after raising alarm. He described the incident as a serious human rights violation.

He has demanded a fair investigation into the matter. He also sought strict action against the accused officers.

Moreover, he requested protection for his personal safety. The complaint has raised concerns over police conduct in the area.

However, no official response has been issued by authorities so far. The allegations have sparked questions about police functioning.
