JAMSHEDPUR – The Jharkhand Basketball Association launched its first-ever state league, featuring six teams in a three-day tournament at Dhatkidih Community Centre.
The inaugural Jharkhand Basketball League kicked off on October 18, 2024.
Teams from across the state are participating in this groundbreaking event.
Moreover, the league boasts a unique team composition format.
Each squad consists of 12 players, including six seniors, three juniors, and three youth players.
Furthermore, this structure aims to promote talent across different age groups.
Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy inaugurated the tournament as the chief guest.
Meanwhile, the opening match saw Jamshedpur Jammers defeat Ballers 37-9.
Amit Sharma of the Jammers earned the best player title, scoring 16 points.
On the other hand, the event has garnered support from various dignitaries.
Notably, Olympian Harbhajan Singh, the association’s president, oversees the tournament.
Additionally, India team coach JP Singh serves as the league’s secretary.
During the inauguration, Roy was named ‘Patron in Chief’ of the Jharkhand Basketball Association.
A local basketball enthusiast commented, "This league is a significant step for basketball development in our state."
The tournament continues until October 20, promising exciting matchups and potential new talent discoveries.
