Election Commission Probes Code Violation in Jharkhand

Foundation stone ceremony held after poll announcement sparks controversy

Key Points:

• CEC investigates Model Code breach in Jugsalai Assembly constituency

• BJP alleges MLA conducted ceremony after election announcement

• EC orders halt to social media promotions of the event

JAMSHEDPUR – The Election Commission has launched an inquiry into an alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct in Jharkhand’s Jugsalai Assembly constituency.

The controversy stems from a foundation stone-laying ceremony held after the election announcement on October 15, 2024.

BJP leader Ankit Anand filed a complaint, citing MLA Mangal Kalindi’s involvement in the event.

Moreover, Anand provided links to a Facebook Live broadcast as evidence of the alleged misconduct.

The ceremony, reportedly attended by local Congress leaders, took place in Chhota Govindpur.

Consequently, the CEC has directed state and district election officials to investigate the matter thoroughly.

Furthermore, the Commission has ordered a halt to social media promotions related to the event.

The complainant has called for verification of permissions and removal of the installed stone plaque.

Meanwhile, the incident has heightened political tensions in Jharkhand.

The BJP has strongly condemned the actions of Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).

However, neither Congress nor JMM has issued an official statement regarding the allegations.

On the other hand, the Election Commission has promised stringent action if violations are confirmed.

A political analyst commented, "This incident underscores the challenges in enforcing the Model Code of Conduct."

The outcome of this investigation could have significant implications for the upcoming elections in Jharkhand.
