• Concerns raised over potential impact on social harmony in region
JAMSHEDPUR – The Central Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (CGPC) has voiced concerns over the exclusion of Sikh candidates in upcoming assembly elections.
Sardar Bhagwan Singh, CGPC Chief, highlighted the issue in a statement released on Monday.
He emphasized the significant Sikh voter base in both Jamshedpur East and West constituencies.
Despite this, no national or regional party has considered a Sikh candidate for the election.
Singh stressed that Sikhs are more than just providers of langar and seva services.
"We are politically active, capable, and deserve rightful representation," he asserted.
Moreover, the CGPC chief pointed out that this is not the first instance of such exclusion.
He recalled similar oversights during previous Lok Sabha elections as well.
The statement warned political parties against taking the Sikh community for granted.
CGPC members echoed Singh’s concerns, highlighting potential consequences of this neglect.
They cautioned that continued marginalization could demoralize the Sikh community.
Furthermore, they warned of possible disruptions to social harmony in the region.
The CGPC urged political parties to consider Sikh aspirations before finalizing candidate lists.
Singh described the issue as a "serious matter" requiring immediate attention from parties.
As election day approaches, the Sikh community awaits a response from political entities.
The controversy underscores the complexities of representation in India’s diverse political landscape.
It also highlights the challenges faced by minority communities in securing political representation.
The outcome of this issue could potentially influence voter sentiment in the upcoming elections.
