JAMSHEDPUR – East Singhbhum district is grappling with a sharp increase in dengue cases, leading to an unprecedented demand for platelets in local blood banks.
The monthly platelet requirement has surged from 550 to 2400 units.
This marks a fourfold increase in demand due to the dengue outbreak.
Currently, 337 confirmed dengue cases have been reported in Kolhan.
The health department has been placed on high alert due to the situation.
Jamshedpur’s blood banks are managing to meet the increased demand so far.
However, continuous appeals for platelet donations are being made.
These appeals aim to prevent treatment delays for dengue patients.
At present, 25 dengue-positive patients are receiving hospital care.
One patient is in critical condition in the ICU at Tata Main Hospital.
Moreover, over 150 suspected dengue cases are under treatment citywide.
The district has confirmed 245 cases from East Singhbhum alone.
Additionally, 21 cases are from West Singhbhum and 62 from Seraikela-Kharsawan.
Dr. Sahir Pal, the Civil Surgeon, warns of potential case increases until November.
Ongoing awareness campaigns aim to prevent further disease spread.
Doctors have been instructed to follow specific platelet transfusion guidelines.
This is crucial as dengue patients often experience significant platelet drops.
Meanwhile, health officials are intensifying vector control measures.
