Cyber Crime Bust: 6 Arrested in Jamtara for Online Fraud

Police seize ₹4.69 lakh, mobile phones, and ATM cards in major operation

JAMTARA – Police in Jamtara’s Cyber Police Station have apprehended six individuals involved in online banking fraud, seizing cash and electronic devices.

The operation resulted from a covert tip-off received by authorities.

A team led by Cyber DSP Ashok Kumar Ram and Inspector Abdul Rahman conducted the raid.

The suspects were arrested in Karmatand police station area.

Law enforcement officials targeted Pindari Das Tola and Muslim Tola localities.

The accused have been identified as Niranjan Das, Pradeep Kumar Das, Rahmat Ansari, Akhtar Ansari, Mahruddin Ansari, and Ashik Ansari.

A case (number 59/24) has been registered against the apprehended individuals.

Police recovered ₹4,69,500 in cash during the operation.

Additionally, 18 mobile phones were seized from the suspects.

Authorities also found 20 SIM cards in possession of the accused.

Moreover, nine ATM cards were confiscated during the raid.

Other items recovered include a passbook, three Aadhaar cards, and four PAN cards.

A voter ID card and a laptop were also among the seized items.

The criminals allegedly posed as Axis Bank officials to deceive victims.

They tricked people into sharing ATM card details and OTPs for KYC updates.

The fraudsters transferred stolen funds to e-wallets after obtaining sensitive information.

Furthermore, they listed fake contact numbers on various e-commerce platforms.

The accused used screen-sharing apps to access victims’ confidential data.

SP Ehtesham Waquarib revealed these details during a press conference at the Cyber Police Station.

Following medical examinations, the suspects were presented in court on Tuesday.

Subsequently, they were remanded to judicial custody at Mandal Jail in Jamtara.
