Jamshedpur Boxing Event Showcases Talent from Urban Services Centers

JAMSHEDPUR – A two-day boxing championship for junior and sub-junior categories was organized by Tata Steel Foundation’s Urban Services unit, featuring participants from various centers.

The Inter-centre Boxing Championship, held on September 26 and 28, brought together 130 young pugilists from 12 Urban Services centers. The event showcased the boxing prowess of both boys and girls in the sub-junior and junior categories.

R K Verma, Treasurer of the Jharkhand Boxing Association, inaugurated the championship on the opening day. He delivered a motivational speech, emphasizing the importance of discipline and sportsmanship in personal development.

The final day of the event saw the presence of distinguished guests, including Uttam Singh, Vice President of Tata Steel, Meramandali, and President of the Jharkhand Boxing Association. Anand Bihary Dubey, Secretary of the Jharkhand Boxing Association, also graced the occasion.

Notable achievements at the championship include:

1. Best Boxer (Junior Boys): Joydeep Sunani

2. Best Boxer (Junior Girls): Laxmi Kumari from Namda

3. Best Promising Boxer (Cadet Boys): Nikhil Kumar from Namda

4. Best Promising Boxer (Cadet Girls): Radhika Kumari from Kasidih

   The event also recognized Manisha Kerketta’s recent accomplishment at the international level. “We are proud to felicitate Manisha Kerketta for her silver medal win at the IBA Junior World Boxing Championship,” stated a representative from Urban Services.

Championship Details

The championship not only provided a platform for young boxers to showcase their skills but also reinforced Tata Steel’s commitment to nurturing sports talent in the region. “Events like these are crucial for identifying and developing future champions,” commented Uttam Singh during the closing ceremony.
