DHANBAD – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended two Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) officials for allegedly accepting a bribe in Jharkhand’s Nirsa area.

Late Friday night, the CBI team caught the manager of ECL’s Shyampur B colliery, P. Mishra, and clerk G. Gorai red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.

The arrests took place at the manager’s residence.

Following the arrests, the CBI team interrogated both individuals at ECL’s guesthouse in Mugma.

Meanwhile, local police have been deployed at the manager’s residence.

However, CBI officials have refrained from providing further details about the case.

According to sources, the bribe was allegedly demanded from Mohammad Salim, who was recently transferred from Hariajam colliery to Shyampur B colliery.

Reportedly, Salim had filed a complaint with the CBI regarding the bribe demand for his posting as magazine clerk at Shyampur B colliery.

In response to the complaint, the CBI team set up a trap to catch the officials in the act.

Subsequently, both the manager and clerk were apprehended while accepting the bribe money.

The CBI team then took the accused into custody for further investigation.
