JAMSHEDPUR – Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy recognized local sanitation workers at a special event organized by Brahmin Tola residents, emphasizing the importance of community-driven cleanliness initiatives.
The felicitation ceremony, now in its third consecutive year, took place on Saturday in Brahmin Tola, Bhuiyandih.
MLA Roy praised the initiative, expressing his desire to replicate similar events across Jamshedpur East Assembly.
Furthermore, he emphasized that such gatherings could foster better coordination between sanitation workers and citizens.
The ultimate goal is to ensure cleaner streets and drains throughout the constituency.
Roy highlighted his ongoing commitment to improving cleanliness in the city.
For the past two years, he has been pressuring both Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) and Tata Steel-UISL to enhance the city’s sanitation system.
However, despite media reports suggesting Tata Steel-UISL would take charge of city-wide cleanliness, the plan remains unimplemented.
Drawing inspiration from Indore’s renowned cleanliness model, Roy shared his experience of studying the city’s municipal system.
He urged JNAC and Tata Steel-UISL to adopt a similar approach for Jamshedpur.
Moreover, the MLA suggested submitting a formal proposal to the Jharkhand government to implement an Indore-like system in the city.
Roy also addressed the significant challenges in maintaining cleanliness in Jamshedpur’s slums.
He pointed out that door-to-door garbage collection has not been properly enforced in these areas.
Nevertheless, the MLA expressed gratitude to the sanitation workers for their tireless efforts.
Their work, in coordination with Brahmin Tola residents, has been crucial in maintaining cleanliness.
At the event, sanitation workers received honors in the form of a shawl, umbrella, and sweets.
The workers were visibly moved by the recognition, especially being felicitated by the local MLA.
This gesture made the event a truly memorable experience for the hardworking sanitation staff.
In conclusion, the event highlighted the importance of community involvement in maintaining urban cleanliness.
It also underscored the need for improved sanitation systems, particularly in underserved areas of Jamshedpur.
