JAMSHEDPUR – A major climate change awareness drive, led by street vendors, recently wrapped up in the city after a week of demonstrations and educational activities.

The National Hawker Federation orchestrated a significant climate change campaign in Jamshedpur.

Moreover, the initiative, spanning from September 13 to 20, saw over 500 street vendors and social activists unite for a common cause.

In addition, participants focused on key areas like Mango, Sakchi, and Burmamines during the week-long event.

The campaign’s primary goal was to advocate for the complete elimination of coal usage.

Furthermore, protesters emphasized the urgent need for a transition to 100% renewable energy sources.

Federation Secretary Uttam Chakraborty spearheaded the climate action initiative.

Besides raising environmental concerns, the campaign shed light on the economic implications of continued coal use.

Demonstrators utilized placards and banners to convey their demands effectively.

On the other hand, the protest called for an immediate halt to fossil fuel financing.

The campaign also stressed the importance of climate finance in facilitating the energy transition.

Chakraborty highlighted the direct impact of climate change on street vendors’ livelihoods.

However, he noted that vendors, who work outdoors year-round, are particularly vulnerable to environmental shifts.

Several key figures contributed significantly to the campaign’s success.

Among the notable participants were Sunita Poyra, Nagendra Kumar, and Khalid Iqbal.

Additionally, Dr. Tahir Hussain, Namita Patro, and Nirmala Das played crucial roles in the initiative.
