JAMSHEDPUR – An illegal sand mining operation was disrupted by SDO Parul Singh during a raid in the Baridih area.
The raid targeted the Baridih Basti riverbank, following reports of illegal sand extraction.
SDO Singh reported that the raid was conducted after receiving multiple complaints about unauthorized sand removal from the river.
On arrival, authorities found large tubes and bamboo rafts used to extract sand from the river.
The operation led to the seizure of eight 407 trucks ready to transport the sand, as well as several tubes used in the extraction process.
Approximately 4000 cubic feet of sand and gravel were recovered from a nearby stockpile.
One person was apprehended at the site, while two others managed to flee by jumping into the river.
SDO Singh emphasized that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fugitives, and she vowed to increase surveillance to prevent future illegal activities in the area.
A local resident remarked, "This raid is a strong message that illegal activities won’t be tolerated anymore."
The investigation into the illegal mining operation continues, with more arrests anticipated.
