JAMSHEDPUR – Jeevan, an organization dedicated to mental health and suicide prevention, successfully hosted the World Suicide Prevention Day program at the Michael John Auditorium, Bistupur.
The event, organized in collaboration with Befrienders Worldwide, focused on spreading the message that "Suicides are preventable, and depressions are curable."
A large number of concerned citizens, mental health advocates, and volunteers attended the program, showing strong support for the cause.
Chief Guest P.K. Ghose, Managing Director of Jamipol, delivered an insightful address on the importance of mental health awareness, particularly in workplaces.
He stated, "It is crucial for organizations to provide support systems for employees facing mental health challenges. Without such systems, we risk losing valuable human resources to preventable tragedies."
Ghose further emphasized, "Mental health should be a priority, just like physical health. Organizations must create an environment where employees feel safe to seek help."
Jyoti Pandey, who delivered the keynote speech, shared valuable insights on recognizing the signs of depression and the importance of emotional support.
"Recognizing early signs of depression can save lives," Pandey said. "We need to encourage open conversations about mental health to break the stigma and offer timely support."
In the days leading up to the main event, Jeevan organized inter-school and inter-college competitions to engage the youth in suicide prevention efforts.
These competitions, which included Nukkad Natak, Debate, and T-shirt painting, saw participation from over 200 students representing 17 schools and 4 colleges.
Speaking on the competitions, a representative from Jeevan said, "The response from students has been overwhelming. It is heartening to see young minds actively participating in spreading awareness about such a critical issue."
The events were held at RMS High School’s Khutadih auditorium, where certificates were awarded to all participants, and prizes were given to the winners in each category during the function.
Dr. Jeoraj Jain, Director of Jeevan, presented the annual report on the organization’s suicide prevention activities, achievements, and future strategies.
He noted, "Our work is far from over. We need to continue expanding our efforts and reach more people to effectively combat the rising trend of suicides."
Gurpreet Kaur Bhatia, Deputy Director of Jeevan, also addressed the gathering, saying, "We are committed to building a society where mental health is given the attention it deserves, and every individual feels supported."
The event concluded with a renewed commitment from all present to continue working towards a future where suicides are preventable, and mental health is universally prioritized.
