JAMSHEDPUR – Talsa villagers have decided to start an indefinite protest against UCIL management from September 23 over unmet demands.
On Sunday, a meeting was held at Talsa Adivasi Nayayuvak Club in Sundernagar, chaired by Gram Sabha President Durgacharan Murmu, where displaced and affected families discussed their grievances with UCIL management.
Murmu highlighted that lands in Talsa village were acquired by UCIL in 1984-85 and 2010-11, yet promised compensation and jobs have not been provided.
He warned that villagers will no longer wait and are prepared to halt operations at the Talsa Tailing Pond indefinitely starting September 23 if their demands are not met.
Murmu stated that the villagers are ready to take any necessary steps to secure their rights, including closing the pond.
Additionally, the Gram Sabha urged UCIL management to promptly address the issues faced by local contractors and workers, failing which the Gram Sabha will take action on its own.
Secretary Bhagwat Mardi, Jiten Hembram, and several other villagers attended the meeting.
