District officials unveil updated electoral roll, emphasize transparency

Jamshedpur’s District Election Officer reveals new voter statistics, urges political parties to assist in maintaining accurate records.

JAMSHEDPUR – District officials backtrack on controversial Mandi Tax plan after intense discussions with trade and farmer representatives.

District Election Officer Ananya Mittal convened a crucial meeting at the Collectorate Auditorium, bringing together district officials and political party representatives to discuss the finalized voter list following the second special summary revision program.

The special summary revision, conducted from July 25 to August 27, 2024, has resulted in significant updates to the district’s voter demographics.

Mittal revealed that the district now boasts 1,854,767 registered voters, with a near-equal gender distribution of 927,747 men and 926,883 women.

The inclusion of 137 third-gender individuals marks a step towards more inclusive representation.

A notable addition to the electoral roll is the 77,172 new voters aged 18 to 19, reflecting increased youth engagement in the democratic process.

The district’s Electoral Participation (EP) ratio stands at 64.50, while the sex ratio has reached an impressive 999.

During the revision period, 20,748 names were removed from the voter list, highlighting the ongoing efforts to maintain an up-to-date and accurate register.

Mittal stressed the critical role of political parties in the continuous updating process, urging their assistance in identifying and rectifying any discrepancies in the voter list.

To facilitate this, the updated list has been made available at various locations, including polling stations, BLO offices, and the District Election Office.

"We encourage all voters to verify their registration status through both online and offline channels," Mittal stated.

"This proactive approach will ensure maximum participation in upcoming elections."

Enhancing Voter Accessibility and Awareness

The District Election Officer introduced several technological initiatives to streamline voter services.

The Voter Helpline App and Voter Service Portal (voter.eci.gov.in) were highlighted as comprehensive platforms for election-related services.

Additionally, the 1950 toll-free number was promoted as a convenient way for voters to verify their registration status and update their information if they have relocated.

Mittal emphasized the importance of these tools in maintaining an accurate and up-to-date voter list.

He urged political parties to assist in spreading awareness about these services among their constituents.

The accessibility of the voter list at all polling stations, BLOs, AERO, ERO offices, and the District Election Office was reiterated to ensure transparency and easy verification for all voters.

Engaging Youth Through Electoral Quiz

In an effort to boost youth engagement, Mittal announced the Jharkhand Election Quiz 2024, organized by the State Election Commission.

This initiative aims to educate young voters about their rights and the electoral process.

"We invite all eligible voters in Jharkhand to participate in this quiz," Mittal encouraged.

"It’s an excellent opportunity to test and enhance your knowledge of our democratic system."

The online registration for the quiz remains open until September 26, with the competition scheduled for September 29 from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m.

Participants can register through the provided link (https://jharkhand.indiaelectionsquiz.com), with attractive prizes awaiting successful contestants.

The meeting was attended by key officials including Oraon, Panchanan, Singh, Priyanka, Singh, Parul, Mahato, Sachidanand, and Sao, Ajay.

District presidents and representatives from various political parties were also present, underscoring the collaborative approach to electoral preparations.
