Tata Steel Announces Winners of QUEERious 3.0 for LGBTQIA+ Students
Competition sees 44% increase in registrations, offering internships and job opportunities
Tata Steel’s third edition of QUEERious, a unique competition for LGBTQIA+ students, concludes with over 2,300 registrations and exciting opportunities.
JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel has successfully concluded the third edition of QUEERious, a one-of-a-kind competition for LGBTQIA+ students, offering internships and job opportunities to top performers.
The competition, designed to provide opportunities for LGBTQIA+ students in the corporate world, saw a significant 44% increase in registrations compared to the previous edition.
Over 2,300 students participated in QUEERious 3.0, with nearly half coming from technical schools and 36% from business schools.
The Grand Finale was held on August 30, 2024, in Jamshedpur, attended by senior Tata Steel leadership.
Atrayee Sanyal, Vice President of Human Resource Management at Tata Steel, expressed enthusiasm about the growing participation, stating it motivates the company to further enhance workplace diversity and inclusion.
This year’s edition introduced team participation and offered case studies in Business, Technical, and General domains.
The top 11 teams presented their ideas at the Grand Finale, with the top three teams receiving cash prizes and opportunities for paid internships and pre-placement offers.
QUEERious, launched in 2022, aims to connect with graduate and post-graduate LGBTQIA+ students.
The program has been recognized at the Tata Steel Innovista Awards 2024 in the ‘Social Innovations’ category.
Tata Steel made history in 2024 by becoming the first Indian company to integrate transgender employees in mines, with around 130 individuals onboarded across various operations.
Chaitanya Bhanu, Vice President of Operations at Tata Steel Jamshedpur, and Jaya Singh Panda, Chief of Learning & Development and Chief Diversity Officer, were among the senior leaders present at the finale.
The success of QUEERious 3.0 underscores Tata Steel’s commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
