JAMSHEDPUR – Local business leaders plan protests against Jharkhand’s proposed market fee on agricultural produce and livestock.

The Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry convened on August 30 to voice opposition to a new government bill.

Jharkhand’s proposed Agricultural Produce and Livestock Promotion Bill has drawn fierce criticism from food grain traders.

Chamber President Vijay Anand Moonka warned the bill could worsen corruption and inflation, harming the public.

"This bill is a step backwards for our state’s economy. We cannot stand idle while traders and consumers suffer," Moonka stated.

Vyapar Mandal President Deepak Bhalotia pledged solidarity, hinting at large-scale protests if the bill passes.

Vice President Anil Modi outlined upcoming actions, including a torch procession on September 1.

Traders plan to meet Agriculture Minister Deepika Pandey Singh on September 4, wearing black badges in protest.

"If our concerns are ignored, we’re prepared for an indefinite shutdown," Modi cautioned.

Chamber Secretary Bharat Makani urged widespread participation in the torch rally to send a clear message.

The business community fears the additional fees will burden traders and ultimately raise consumer prices.

Traders across Jharkhand have united in opposition, vowing to resist the bill’s implementation.

The Chamber emphasized its commitment to protecting traders’ interests and ensuring their voices are heard.

Local economists worry about the potential economic ripple effects if the bill is enacted.

As tensions rise, all eyes are on the government’s response to the mounting pressure from the business sector.
