Jharkhand Police Denies Spying Allegations on Champai Soren

Special Branch claims officers were deployed for security, not surveillance; JMM accuses BJP of misinformation.

Jharkhand Police clarified that Special Branch officers were assigned for security purposes of Champai Soren in Delhi, not for surveillance.

RANCHI – The Jharkhand Police Special Branch has denied allegations of spying on former Chief Minister Champai Soren, stating that officers were assigned to protect him, not to conduct surveillance.

The Special Branch explained that two officers were deployed in New Delhi to ensure the safety of Champai Soren, who holds a high-security status as a former Chief Minister and current minister.

They emphasized that these officers were not involved in any surveillance activities.

The police highlighted that it is customary for Jharkhand Police teams in Delhi and other states to gather information on political, economic, social, and other significant matters both directly and indirectly.

"This is a routine practice," the Special Branch noted.

Regarding reports of the two officers being detained in Delhi, the police said, "The news circulating that specific individuals were being surveilled is incorrect. The officers were mistaken while performing their duties and have since been released after the facts were clarified."

All relevant information and updates have been shared with the concerned investigative agencies.

The police headquarters asserted that any claims of surveillance conducted by the Special Branch are false.

JMM Hits Back at BJP

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) responded strongly, accusing BJP leaders of spreading false information.

"By continually lying, BJP leaders have destroyed the nation’s trust," JMM stated.

"The BJP must apologize to the country," they added.

The JMM pointed out that Champai Soren has been in the public eye, moving openly from Kolkata to Delhi and being visible in the media.

"If he has been so visible, why would anyone need to spy on him?" questioned the JMM.

They accused BJP leaders of losing balance over Hemant Soren’s popularity and resorting to lies.

The JMM stated, "The people of Jharkhand are aware of the truth, and they will give the BJP a fitting response in the upcoming elections."
