Passport Police Verification to Be Done in Seven Days: K Manita

Ranchi Regional Passport Officer Manita K. promises an expedited police verification process for passports, aiming to reduce the waiting time to a week.

JAMSHEDPUR – Ranchi Regional Officer Manita K. inspected the Passport Seva Kendra at Bistupur on Friday.

She addressed the numerous people who had gathered to apply for passports.

Following the inspection, Manita K informed the press about plans to improve the service center’s office in Jamshedpur.

She outlined proposals to enhance the seating and waiting area and increase the number of counters.

While discussing the passport process, she acknowledged that police verification was the step taking the most time.

She mentioned the launch of the mPassport app by the Union Ministry of External Affairs to tackle this issue.

She informed that 22 out of 77 police stations in Kolhan are already connected to the mPassport Seva.

The goal is to connect all police stations to this system, reducing the average verification time from 15 days to just seven.

According to her, the current verification time in Ranchi is 10 days, in contrast to 2-3 days in Kerala.

She emphasized that during police verification, attention should be focused on checking an applicant’s citizenship and criminal records.

She also informed that around 3500 passport applications come from across the state each day.

In a workshop with police officers, she highlighted the importance of making the passport process in the state 100 percent digital by completely digitizing the police verification process.
