Champai Soren’s Delhi Trip Fuels Political Speculation
Former Jharkhand CM’s visit to national capital sparks rumors of potential BJP switch
The sudden Delhi trip of ex-Jharkhand CM Champai Soren has ignited intense political speculation in the state.
JAMSHEDPUR – Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren’s unexpected journey to Delhi via Kolkata has set off a wave of political conjecture.
The JMM leader arrived in the national capital on Sunday, August 18, 2024.
Upon landing, Soren insisted his trip was purely personal, stating, “I haven’t met any BJP leader. I’m here for private reasons.”
However, sources reveal that nine Jharkhand legislators are currently in Delhi, residing at BJP leaders’ farmhouses and guesthouses.
Political Reactions
Saryu Roy, MLA from Jamshedpur East, offered his perspective on the situation.
“Where there’s smoke, there’s fire,” Roy commented, describing Soren as a seasoned and astute politician.
He added, “Whatever decision Champai makes will be in Jharkhand’s best interest.”
BJP’s Stance
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed the rumors cautiously.
“No one has contacted us yet. I’m hearing these reports only from media channels,” Sarma stated.
He continued, “Champai Soren is a very senior leader. I don’t want to make any informal comments about him.”
JMM’s Response
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has remained tight-lipped about Soren’s Delhi visit.
A close associate of Soren confirmed his departure from Kolkata but refused to provide additional details.
The party has not issued any official statement regarding the speculation.
Implications for Jharkhand Politics
Soren’s mysterious trip comes ahead of the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections.
Political analysts suggest this move could potentially reshape the state’s political landscape.
The timing of the visit, coupled with the presence of other legislators in Delhi, has intensified the rumors of a possible political realignment.
