MLA criticizes unsafe power practices, questions RTE implementation in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy voiced concerns over electricity safety and school admissions for BPL children at a Disha meeting.

JAMSHEDPUR – At a Disha committee meeting, MLA Saryu Roy criticized unsafe electrical practices and raised issues about BPL children’s school admissions.

During a District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (Disha) meeting, Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy expressed serious concerns about the electricity department’s performance.

Roy highlighted unsafe practices, such as running power lines on bamboo poles, which he argued increased accident risks.

The MLA criticized the department’s poor responsiveness and maintenance issues, including leaning poles and wires touching houses.

"What’s the point of having contact numbers if they’re never answered?" Roy questioned, addressing the electricity department’s lack of communication.

Regarding education, Roy inquired about the implementation of the DMFT scheme for school infrastructure improvements.

He noted that his recommendations for boundary walls, toilets, and other necessities in 21 schools in his constituency had not been addressed.

The MLA also raised concerns about the Right to Education (RTE) Act’s implementation, particularly the 25% reservation for BPL category children in private schools.

Roy reported that many schools were not complying with this provision, citing Supreme Court exemptions.

The District Education Superintendent confirmed that some schools had indeed obtained such exemptions.

"I request a copy of the Supreme Court order granting these exemptions," Roy stated, prompting the Deputy Commissioner to instruct its prompt provision.

Addressing the issues raised, the Deputy Commissioner assured that public complaints would be resolved quickly, with updates communicated to concerned representatives.

A local resident, speaking on condition of anonymity, commented, "It’s refreshing to see our elected officials addressing these critical infrastructure and education issues. We hope to see concrete actions following these discussions."
