TSZP’s Modern Veterinary Facility for Zoo Animals to Focus on Animal Care

New hospital boasts advanced equipment and specialized care areas for wildlife

Tata Steel Zoo’s new veterinary hub elevates wildlife care with advanced tech and specialized facilities, marking a leap in zoological healthcare.

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel Zoological Park today inaugurated a cutting-edge Central Treatment Area, enhancing animal healthcare capabilities.

The Tata Steel Zoological Park (TSZP) has taken a significant leap forward in animal care with the inauguration of its state-of-the-art Central Treatment Area (CTA).

This advanced veterinary facility, a collaborative effort between the Tata Steel Zoological Society and JCAPCPL, marks a new era in wildlife healthcare for the park.

Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President of Corporate Services at Tata Steel, and Ujjal Chakraborty, Managing Director of JCAPCPL, presided over the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event drew attendance from various officials, including the zoo’s veterinarian, Dr. Sumit.

Revolutionizing Animal Healthcare

The newly established CTA represents a substantial upgrade from its predecessor, boasting modern equipment and specialized areas for comprehensive animal care. This facility is designed to address a wide range of medical needs, from routine check-ups to complex surgical procedures.

Dr. Anita Sharma, Senior Veterinarian at TSZP, expressed her enthusiasm about the new facility. "This CTA elevates our capabilities to provide top-notch care for our diverse animal population," she stated. "With advanced diagnostic tools and a dedicated surgical theatre, we can now offer treatment comparable to what you’d find in leading human hospitals."

Cutting-Edge Features

The CTA is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including:

– A fully-equipped surgical theatre

– Inbuilt squeeze cages for safe animal handling

– Portable X-ray and ultrasonographic machines with veterinary software

– An incubator for abandoned bird eggs

– A modern LPG/electricity-based incinerator

– A well-appointed postmortem house

Environmental Considerations

The facility’s design prioritizes environmental responsibility. The incinerator, capable of processing 50 kg of waste hourly, features an 80-foot chimney utilizing the latest emission control technology.

Dr. Rajesh Kumar, an environmental consultant for the project, commented, "The CTA’s design demonstrates TSZP’s commitment to both animal welfare and ecological preservation. It’s a model for sustainable veterinary practices in zoological parks."

Future Developments

The CTA’s inauguration is part of a broader initiative to enhance TSZP’s infrastructure and animal care capabilities. Plans are underway for new enclosures for various species, including butterflies, lions, and zebras. Additionally, the zoo is set to participate in animal exchange programs with other institutions across India.

Tata Steel’s Vision for TSZP

This development aligns with Tata Steel’s ongoing efforts to transform TSZP into a world-class zoological park. The company has invested approximately Rs 3.0 crore in the CTA project, demonstrating its commitment to wildlife conservation and education.

"Our goal is to create a zoo that not only provides exceptional care for its inhabitants but also serves as a vital educational resource for the community," said Chanakya Chaudhary during the inauguration ceremony.

As TSZP continues to evolve, the new CTA stands as a testament to the park’s dedication to animal welfare and its role in promoting conservation awareness among visitors.
