Students Engage in Hands-on Learning to Protect Endangered Species
Tata Zoo’s International Tiger Day celebration united students and experts in a day of interactive learning, featuring tree planting, wildlife talks, and field research techniques.
JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel Zoological Park hosted an immersive International Tiger Day celebration, uniting students and experts in wildlife preservation efforts.
Zoology students from Jamshedpur Co-operative College joined forces with Tata Zoo to champion tiger conservation through interactive workshops and educational initiatives.
The event commenced with a native tree planting session, emphasizing the crucial link between flora and fauna in sustaining healthy ecosystems.
"By nurturing these saplings, we’re cultivating hope for tigers and all wildlife," remarked Dr. Seema Rani, Biologist cum Education Officer at Tata Zoo.
Participants explored the zoo’s tiger enclosure, gaining insights into the challenges faced by these majestic creatures in the wild.
Dr. Sanjay Kumar Mahato, Curator at Tata Zoo, delivered an engaging talk on tiger conservation strategies, sparking a lively discussion among attendees.
"Understanding the intricate balance of nature is key to protecting tigers," Dr. Mahato explained. "Each action we take ripples through the entire ecosystem."
The day concluded with a ‘touch n learn’ program, where students examined carnivore pugmarks and learned about field research techniques.
This hands-on approach provided valuable experience for aspiring conservationists, bridging the gap between academic knowledge and practical application.
Dr. Amar Kumar, Head of the Zoology Department at Jamshedpur Co-operative College, praised the event’s impact on his students.
"Witnessing the enthusiasm and engagement of our young minds gives me hope for the future of wildlife conservation," he said.
As International Tiger Day celebrations wrap up, the message resonates clearly: protecting tigers means safeguarding entire ecosystems and, ultimately, ourselves.
