A five-day workshop on traditional Bhumij musical instruments and dance was inaugurated at Upgraded Middle School, Tangrain, in collaboration with Tata Steel Foundation and Adivasi Romoj Akhra.
The workshop, held from August 6 to August 10, was inaugurated by Principal Arvind Tiwari, social worker Mohanlal Sardar, Ujjwal Mandal, and other dignitaries.
Project Coordinator Babulal Goipai stated that the main objective of the workshop is to preserve and promote the traditional culture of the Bhumij community, which is facing the threat of extinction.
The workshop will teach the basics of playing musical instruments, dance, and music to instill interest and enthusiasm in children for their culture.
Trainers for the workshop include Subhash Sardar, Dashrath Sardar, Samu Sardar, Saraswati Sardar, Dumni Murmu, and Sangeeta Samad.
The initiative aims to foster a sense of pride and continuity in the Bhumij heritage among the younger generation.
Participants are expected to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of their cultural roots.
The collaborative effort highlights the importance of cultural preservation in the face of modernization.
Community members and organizers expressed hope that the workshop will inspire ongoing efforts to maintain and celebrate Bhumij traditions.
