Senior Citizens in Jamshedpur Plan Protest Against Railway Fare Hike

Singhbhum Central Senior Citizens Committee to march in protest on August 13, demanding the reinstatement of railway fare concessions and pension hike.

Senior citizens in Jamshedpur are angered by the central government’s decision not to restore the previous 40% and 50% railway fare concessions in the 2024 budget.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Singhbhum Central Senior Citizens Committee held a meeting today and decided to protest against the central government’s failure to reinstate the railway fare concessions for senior citizens in the 2024 budget.

Disappointed by the government’s decision, the senior citizens had hoped that the new government would consider restoring the previous concessions.

As a result, they have planned a march on August 13, 2024, wearing black badges and carrying posters and banners.

The march will start from Gandhi Ghat Park and proceed to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum.

They will submit a memorandum addressed to the President, Prime Minister, and Railway Minister through the Deputy Commissioner.

Jamshedpur MP Vidyut Varan Mahato will be invited to join the protest.

Additionally, they will submit a request to the Chief Minister of Jharkhand to increase the senior citizen pension from ₹1,000 to ₹3,000.

If no action is taken on these demands, the senior citizens have vowed to intensify their protest and go on a hunger strike.

Key participants in today’s meeting included Central President Shiv Pujan Singh, J.N. Agarwal, Kailash Prasad, Dinesh Prasad, Richard Pasayan, Vishambhar Sahu, and Vishambhar Sharma.
