GIRIDIH — Two persons have been arrested in connection with an attack on a police team that had gone to apprehend a cyber criminal in Chiksoria village under Ahilyapur police station area in Giridih, with the search continuing for the remaining accused including the cyber criminal who was freed by the mob.
The incident occurred during the intervening night of June 10 and 11, when a cyber police station team received a tip-off that cyber crime accused Chudaman Mandal was present at his hideout in Chiksoria village. Acting on the intelligence, the team conducted a raid and began detaining Mandal.
However, a group of anti-social elements and alleged cyber criminals intervened and began jostling with the police personnel. The situation turned tense rapidly. The mob then resorted to stone-pelting, targeting both the officers and the government vehicle, which was damaged in the attack.
Moreover, the attackers managed to free Chudaman Mandal from police custody and helped him flee the scene. Several police personnel sustained injuries in the incident, while government property was also damaged.
Following the attack, a case was registered at Ahilyapur police station as FIR No. 21/2026 and an investigation was launched. On the other hand, given the gravity of the matter, the Giridih Superintendent of Police ordered the formation of a special raiding team under the leadership of the Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer.
The team moved swiftly and arrested two accused. The arrested persons have been identified as Jitan Mandal, 51, and Suraj Mandal, 20, both residents of Chiksoria village. Both are currently being interrogated, and their precise roles in the attack on police are being established.
In addition, police officers confirmed that the special operation involved personnel from the cyber police station, Mufasil police station, and Ahilyapur police station, among others. The cyber crime accused Chudaman Mandal and other suspects who are still at large are being actively hunted, with raids continuing at multiple locations.
“Those who take the law into their own hands will not be spared under any circumstances,” a police officer said, adding that all accused would be brought to justice soon. Police have also appealed to members of the public to cooperate with the investigation and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station immediately.
