Key Points:
- Sudden rain with strong winds hits Jamshedpur on Thursday evening
- Falling branches and disrupted movement reported at several spots
- Met department forecasts light to moderate rain for next few days
JAMSHEDPUR – After a day of intense humidity and sweltering heat, Jamshedpur witnessed a sudden change in weather on Thursday evening, as dark clouds gathered and strong winds ushered in rain across several parts of the city, bringing considerable relief to residents.
The temperature dropped noticeably after the rain and the weather turned pleasant. However, the sudden strong winds also raised concerns, as branches snapped off trees at a number of locations and movement on roads was disrupted.
People who had stepped out to markets and roads in the evening were caught off guard by the sudden downpour and had to take shelter wherever they could. Meanwhile, farmers and the general public expressed relief at the change in conditions, as the city had been reeling under prolonged heat.
According to the meteorological department, cloudy skies are likely to persist over the region for the next few days. Moreover, light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue through the coming days. Jamshedpur had earlier recorded temperatures crossing 41 degrees Celsius during the peak of the heatwave earlier this season, making Thursday’s rain a welcome respite for the city’s residents.
