Interactive Session on Human Rights Held at DBMS College of Education

NHRC New Delhi organized an interactive session at DBMS College to raise student awareness on human rights.

The session at DBMS College of Education, organized by the National Human Rights Commission, aimed to educate students on human rights.

JAMSHEDPUR – An interactive session on human rights was held at DBMS College of Education, organized by the National Human Rights Commission, New Delhi.

The event began with a rendition of Mahatma Gandhi’s favorite hymn, "Vaishnav Jan Te," presented by Amrita Chaudhary. Chief guests, former IAS and NHRC Special Rapporteur Suchitra Sinha, and District Nodal Officer Sandhya Rani, were honored with floral bouquets by College Secretary Shripriya Dharamrajan and Principal Dr. Juhi Samarpita.

High Education and Technical Department Deputy Director Dr. Sunil Kumar was also honored by Governing Body Secretary Satish Singh. Principal Dr. Juhi Samarpita, in her welcome address, emphasized the importance of social harmony and equal rights in Indian culture.

Keynote Speeches and Information Sharing

Chief guest Suchitra Sinha provided valuable insights into various human rights, from birth to death, covering rights of children, education, women, privacy, and general civil rights. She explained the concept of "Zero FIR," allowing victims of sexual assault to file a complaint from any location within three months.

Dr. Sunil Kumar stressed the need for awareness about human rights and demonstrated how and where to report rights violations. District Nodal Officer Sandhya Rani and her team also presented information and distributed forms for students interested in becoming volunteers.

Student and Faculty Involvement

The session was moderated by Anjali Ganesan, who introduced the chief guests. Governing Body Secretary Satish Singh, College Secretary Shripriya Dharamrajan, Co-Secretary Tamilselvi Balakrishnan, and Vice-Principal Dr. Monica Uppal were present. Assistant Professor Kanchan Kumari engaged with the chief guest on the right to education for street children.

Students actively participated, with many expressing interest in volunteering for NHRC. Sudip Pramanik provided technical support for the event, which benefited all B.Ed students.

Closing Remarks and Online Broadcast

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Assistant Professor and Grievance Redressal Cell Head Gayatri Kumari. The session was also live-streamed on YouTube.
