Poet Munawwar Rana passes away after prolonged illness

After a protracted illness, renowned poet Munawwar Rana died away in Lucknow. He was being treated at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences.

Munawwar Rana passed away from cardiac arrest at the age of 71. Throughout his career, Rana has won several accolades, most notably the 2014 Sahitya Akademi Award.

Munawwar Rana had retured the award after about a year alleging increasing bigotry in the country.

The late poet had given rise to several controversies.

Prior to the UP polls, he had said that the Yogi administration will not be re-elected. HE had declared his intention to leave the state if Yogi again came to power again.
