Two Teens Still Missing in Kharkai River, Search Suspended Due to Darkness

Rescue Efforts to Resume at RIT Dam Site as Families Anxiously Wait

Jamshedpur authorities mobilize specialized teams to locate two 15-year-old boys swept away while bathing in check dam.

JAMSHEDPUR – A search operation for two teenagers who went missing while bathing in a check dam on the Kharkhai River near RIT was suspended Sunday evening due to darkness and rain.

The incident occurred around noon when a group of youths from Ichapur went swimming at the under-construction dam in Asangi.

Aditya Mahato and Sumit Modi, both 15, were reportedly caught in strong currents.

Their companions alerted family members around 3 PM, sparking frantic searches by relatives and locals.

Former ward councilor Dhiren Mahato and RIT police station in-charge Vinay Kumar reached the site to coordinate rescue efforts.

A team of divers from Sonari, led by Devashish Dhivar, searched for about 90 minutes without success before operations were halted.

The Deputy Commissioner has requested specialized divers from the NDRF in Ranchi to join the search on Monday.

Both missing teens are only sons, leaving their families devastated as they await news.

Former Adityapur Municipal Council vice-president Purendra Narayan Singh, who is assisting rescue efforts, expressed deep sorrow over the incident.

Authorities plan to resume the search operation early Monday, hoping against odds to find the boys alive.
