JAMSHEDPUR – The INDIA alliance has boycotted the NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting in Delhi.
Dr. Ajoy Kumar criticized the central government’s policies on Saturday, accusing them of trying to cripple state governments.
Dr. Kumar highlighted the discrimination against opposition-ruled states by NITI Aayog over the past decade.
He argued that this undermines the principles of federalism.
Since its establishment ten years ago, NITI Aayog has become an attached office of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), serving merely as a propaganda tool for the Prime Minister.
Dr. Ajoy Kumar also questioned the working methods of NITI Aayog, stating that it has not strengthened cooperative federalism in any meaningful way.
Functioning of NITI Aayog
Dr. Kumar described the functioning of NITI Aayog as clearly biased, lacking professionalism and independence.
He emphasized that NITI Aayog suppresses all dissenting viewpoints, equating this to the murder of democracy.
He called the NITI Aayog meetings mere pretenses.
Dr. Kumar pointed out that the treatment meted out to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the NITI Aayog meeting reflects the true nature of the institution, which he termed utterly unacceptable.
"Our federal structure is being compromised," Dr. Kumar asserted.
"The central government must not try to cripple the states," he added.
